Montgomery County's 4th District police station will move out of its aging Randolph Road building in September and temporarily set up at 2425 Reedie Drive while the department plans a new permanent facility.

Capt. David Smith, the district's commander, announced the relocation Monday, Aug. 10 in a video posted to the department's official X account. The department said the current station at 2300 Randolph Road in Wheaton, built in 1959, is nearing the end of its useful life.

The building is 67 years old.

The 4th District borders the 2nd District, which covers Bethesda and Chevy Chase. Both districts share county resources, and changes at one station can affect patrol coverage and response across district lines.

The station's condition has drawn scrutiny before. In November 2025, the Montgomery County Police Union warned publicly of what it called "deplorable working conditions" inside the building, telling Fox 5 DC the station had been condemned roughly 20 years earlier and kept running through temporary repairs funded by the county.

No specific date within September has been announced for the move. The department has not disclosed details about the Reedie Drive space or a timeline for the planned permanent station.

The 4th District serves Wheaton, Glenmont, Aspen Hill and parts of Olney and Kensington, covering six geographic beats around the clock. The district's non-emergency number, 240-773-5500, remains active. For emergencies, residents should call 911; for other non-emergency reports, 301-279-8000.

The department is seeking community input on the proposal to build a new station in the Wheaton-Glenmont area through an online survey available in English and Spanish on the 4th District's official page.
