Kusshi Sushi has signed a lease for a second Bethesda restaurant at 4611 Sangamore Rd., taking over the storefront Passion Fin occupied for more than a decade.

Bethesda blogger Robert Dyer first reported the signing on Sept. 10. The MoCo Show confirmed the lease on Monday, Sept. 21, placing the sushi chain in the Sumner Place shopping center on Sangamore Road. No opening date has been announced.

The new spot will join Kusshi's existing Bethesda location at 7820 Norfolk Ave. in the Woodmont Triangle, according to the company's website. That restaurant opened in the former Hanaro space. Hanaro was the original name under which the brand launched in downtown Bethesda in 2016.

Kusshi debuted its Pike & Rose location in North Bethesda in 2018 and built a following for its sushi and specialty rolls. The chain has since grown to eight locations across the D.C. region, including Rockville Town Square, Downtown Silver Spring, Arlington, Tysons, Reston and D.C.'s Glover Park.

The Sangamore Road signing is part of a broader Maryland expansion. The MoCo Show reported that Kusshi also plans to open at The Station at Riverdale Park, at 4501 Woodberry St. That address is the former home of Le Fantome Food Hall, which closed in April 2025. The Riverdale Park restaurant would be Kusshi's first location in Prince George's County.

A previously announced Germantown restaurant also remains in the works. Kusshi told The MoCo Show the location, in the former Zane Japanese Eatery space next to Beers and Cheers, is still part of its plans. When it opens, the Germantown spot would become the brand's first upcounty Montgomery County location.

Opening dates for all three new Maryland locations have not been announced.
