Senior forward Maika Lotsch scored twice as Whitman girls soccer beat Albert Einstein 3-1 on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Lotsch put the Vikings ahead in the first half, then added a second goal after halftime with an assist from freshman Clara McHugh, according to The Black and White. Einstein (5-3) pulled one back against junior goalkeeper Hannah Lewington before Whitman sealed the result with a third goal. The third scorer was not identified.
The win improved Whitman to 4-4, according to The Black and White. The Vikings went 1-4-1 over their previous six games before the Einstein match, a stretch that included losses to Walter Johnson, Churchill and Bethesda-Chevy Chase, all area rivals, along with defeats to Georgetown Visitation Prep and a tie with Richard Montgomery, per MaxPreps. Whitman's two wins during that span came against Wootton (4-0) and Clarksburg (8-0).
The 3-1 result gave the Vikings a needed boost at the midpoint of their schedule. Whitman entered the season with an opening-day 4-0 win over Wootton on Aug. 15 but hit a rough patch through September.
Whitman was scheduled to host Good Counsel on Monday, Oct. 12. No result from that game was available as of Tuesday, Oct. 13. The Vikings travel to Northwest on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7:15 p.m., visit Blair on Monday, Oct. 19 at 5:15 p.m. and close the stretch at Paint Branch on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7:15 p.m.
