Eighty-six local artists will open 35 homes and studios across Chevy Chase for the 7th Annual Ch/Art Art Walk. The free event runs Saturday, Oct. 17, and Sunday, Oct. 18, from noon to 5 p.m.
Ch/Art, which describes itself as the only nonprofit community arts organization serving Chevy Chase in Maryland and D.C., organized the walk to let visitors meet artists, watch demonstrations and buy original work. The roster spans painting, sculpture, ceramics, pottery, jewelry, photography, fiber art and mixed media, according to the group's website.
Visitors can stroll, bike or drive between locations using an Art Walk map. Brochures with artist profiles, studio locations and the map are available at local businesses throughout the Chevy Chase area. A passport program lets visitors collect stamps at each stop for a chance to win a prize. The event runs rain or shine.
No admission fee is required.
Valdés marks 85th birthday at Strathmore
On Sunday evening, pianist Chucho Valdés brings his 85th birthday celebration to the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
Valdés founded the band Irakere in the early 1970s, fusing Afro-Cuban ritual music, jazz, rock and classical elements into a sound that reshaped Latin jazz, according to Strathmore's event page. He has won seven Grammy Awards and seven Latin Grammy Awards, as Montgomery Magazine reported. His 2025 album, Cuba and Beyond, recorded with the Royal Quartet, blends Cuban traditions with Thelonious Monk-influenced jazz.
Strathmore describes the concert as a retrospective honoring Valdés's career in Afro-Cuban jazz. Tickets range from $28 to $98. Community access tickets under $30 are available for Strathmore Presents programs but must be requested at least one week before the show.
