Kusshi Sushi pulled a $150,000 fit-out permit for a second Bethesda restaurant at 4611-H Sangamore Road, The MoCo Show reported Oct. 11.

The new location will take over the former Passion Fin space at the Shops at Sumner Place, also known as Little Falls Mall, next to ATI Physical Therapy. Passion Fin operated there for about 14 years before closing, according to Robert Dyer's Bethesda blog, which first reported the lease signing Sept. 10.

Kusshi already runs a restaurant on Woodmont Avenue in downtown Bethesda, near Call Your Mother, Max's Best Ice Cream and Jetties. The Sangamore Road outpost will give the sushi chain a second location in the area.

The brand showed up at the 34th annual Taste of Bethesda on Saturday, Oct. 3, serving pork dumplings, chicken karaage, Japanese calamari and takoyaki. The festival appearance offered a preview of the kind of menu Bethesda diners can expect at the new spot.

The permit, sourced to Maryland Newsletters by The MoCo Show, covers interior buildout work. No opening date has been announced, and no details about the renovation scope or planned menu have been released.

The Sangamore Road permit is part of a broader push. Kusshi obtained a separate $150,000 permit on Sept. 26 for a Germantown restaurant in the former Zane Japanese Eatery space, which would become its first upcounty Montgomery County location. The chain is also planning its first Prince George's County restaurant at The Station at Riverdale Park, at 4501 Woodberry St, according to a Sept. 21 MoCo Show report.

Kusshi launched at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda in 2018. Its Montgomery County locations now include Bethesda, Rockville Town Square and Downtown Silver Spring, with additional restaurants in Northern Virginia.

No opening timeline for the Sangamore Road location has been set.
