Kickz, the streetwear and sporting goods boutique at Westfield Montgomery Mall, has closed its Bethesda location.

The store has been cleared out, with empty shelves and packing boxes left on the sales floor, Robert Dyer's blog first reported. Kickz has also been removed from the mall's online tenant directory. The chain still operates a location at Potomac Mills Mall.

No reason for the closure is public. Neither Kickz nor Westfield Montgomery Mall management has issued a statement about the departure.

The closure adds to a wave of tenant turnover at the Democracy Boulevard shopping center. Windsor, the women's clothing retailer, permanently closed its Westfield Montgomery store on Aug. 16 after seven years, MoCoShow reported. Pollo Campero shuttered its food court location in early September after about two years.

But new tenants are filling the gaps. Wetzel's Pretzels and a Tesla holiday pop-up shop both opened at the mall on Oct. 8. Fashion Q, a Los Angeles-based retailer, reopened on Level 1 in early October after leaving the mall in 2025. POP MART, the collectible toy retailer, held its grand opening on Sept. 5 after starting with a vending machine at the mall in early 2025. Just Cozy, a Canadian cold-weather apparel brand, is also expected to open this month, according to MoCoShow.

More arrivals are on the way. A two-level Zara store is expected to debut in December, relocating from the retailer's current space in the Nordstrom wing, The Sentinel reported. HEYTEA and Kami Ramen are planned for October, and MINISO and PacSun are set to return later in 2026, according to The Sentinel. Senior general manager Jason Dyer described the changes as a new era of development for the center in an August statement announcing a new marketing hire.

The mall also implemented a Parental Guidance Policy on Sept. 28, requiring visitors under 18 to be accompanied by an adult 21 or older after 3 p.m. daily. Blog commenters speculated the policy played a role in Kickz's exit, but no evidence supports that claim.

No replacement tenant has been announced for the Kickz space at 7101 Democracy Blvd.
