The Whitman girls volleyball team rolled past Seneca Valley 3-0 on Monday, Oct. 5, for its third straight sweep.
Set scores were 25-19, 25-22 and 25-15. The Screaming Eagles entered the match at 5-3 but couldn't keep pace with Whitman's attack across any of the three sets. The third set was the most lopsided, with the Vikings pulling away for a 10-point margin.
The win capped a strong stretch for the Vikings, who have not dropped a set in their last three matches. Whitman swept Quince Orchard 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 29, beat Bethesda-Chevy Chase 3-0 on Thursday, Oct. 1, in the team's annual "dig pink" breast cancer awareness match, and then handled Seneca Valley on Monday, Oct. 5.
The Vikings carry a three-match winning streak into the second half of the schedule.
Their overall record stands at 6-5 with a 3-1 region mark, according to MaxPreps. The overall record includes two tournament losses on Sept. 26 against the Academy of the Holy Cross and Richard Montgomery that some tallies exclude. Within region play, the Vikings sit third. MaxPreps ranks Whitman No. 63 in Maryland.
Whitman's five losses have come against Clarksburg, Wootton, Churchill, Holy Cross and Richard Montgomery. The Vikings also beat Walter Johnson 3-1 in a region match on Sept. 22.
Whitman was scheduled to visit Kennedy (0-7) on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 6:30 p.m. The result of that match was not available as of Oct. 8. The Vikings then travel to Gaithersburg on Monday, Oct. 12, and to Damascus on Wednesday, Oct. 14, both at 6:30 p.m.
