Walt Whitman's girls field hockey team beat Quince Orchard 3-1 on Thursday, Oct. 1, improving to 6-2 on the season.
Three Vikings found the back of the cage. Junior Ella Kanczuker, sophomore Antonia Perrado and senior Kate Megary each scored for Whitman. Quince Orchard fell to 2-5 with the loss.
The win set up a Class 4A South I region matchup at Bethesda-Chevy Chase, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m., according to MaxPreps. The result of that game was not available as of publication.
The rivalry carries recent playoff history. B-CC eliminated Whitman in overtime in last season's region semifinal before falling to Churchill in the region final, according to the B-CC Tattler. The Barons returned 14 seniors this fall. B-CC coach Colby Wright told the Tattler in a Sept. 22 season preview that her team's approach is straightforward: "We just have to take it day by day and game by game."
The game result was first reported by The Black and White, Whitman's student newspaper.
Whitman's next scheduled game after the B-CC matchup is Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. at Springbrook.
