The Walt Whitman golf team posted a 145 at Northwest Golf Course on Thursday, Oct. 1, beating three opponents and improving to 13-2 on the season.
The Vikings finished seven strokes ahead of the Damascus Hornets, 13 ahead of the Walter Johnson Wildcats and 21 ahead of the Blair Blazers, according to results reported by The Black and White, Whitman's student newspaper.
Junior Alex Bruch led the team with a 35, the lowest individual score in the match. Junior Leo Zelaya followed with a 36. Sophomore Miles Simpson, senior Andie Greenberg and junior Noah Caruso each carded 37.
All five scoring Vikings finished within two strokes of each other.
The performance came one day after Whitman set a school record at Rattlewood Golf Course. On Sept. 30, the Vikings shot a 141, beating Churchill by 12 strokes, Damascus by 14 and Wootton by 31, according to The Black and White. Zelaya and Greenberg shared co-medalist honors at Rattlewood, each shooting a season-low 34.
The Montgomery County Public Schools coed golf district championship was scheduled for Monday, Oct. 5, at Crossvines Golf Course in Poolesville with a 9 a.m. shotgun start, according to Rockville High School athletics. Results from that event were not available as of Oct. 7.
