Walter Johnson girls soccer hosts No. 32-ranked Richard Montgomery on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. in Bethesda.

The Rockets (7-2) come off a 2-1 win over previously unbeaten Poolesville on Oct. 7, a result that handed the Falcons their first loss of the season, as Bethesda Magazine first reported. The Wildcats (6-3) have won two straight, including an 8-0 win over Blake on Oct. 5 and a 3-1 road win at Gaithersburg on Oct. 7, according to CSZ schedule data.

Both teams need the win.

Richard Montgomery sits No. 2 in its conference and No. 32 in the state out of 204 teams, per CSZ rankings. Walter Johnson is tied for third in its conference with Quince Orchard and ranked No. 59 statewide. The Wildcats opened the season with four consecutive wins, beating Rockville 6-0, Magruder 2-0, Whitman 1-0 and Quince Orchard 3-0. Three losses in late September followed: 1-0 to Wootton on Sept. 22, 1-0 to Bethesda-Chevy Chase on Sept. 24 and 2-1 to Churchill on Sept. 30.

Head coach Ilyes Ouldbrahim's squad has responded with two lopsided wins since.

Richard Montgomery sophomore Ashley Paiz, after the Oct. 7 Poolesville win, told Bethesda Magazine the team's confidence is building. "The grind doesn't stop, so we're picking up more steam as the end of the season gets closer," Paiz said.

The MPSSAA Class 4A girls soccer postseason begins with region quarterfinals Oct. 28 and runs through state championships Nov. 19-21. Richard Montgomery made the state tournament last fall but fell 1-0 to Bethesda-Chevy Chase in a first-round game on Oct. 31, 2025.

After the Oct. 13 matchup, Walter Johnson travels to Northwest on Oct. 19 and hosts Kennedy on Oct. 22. Richard Montgomery visits Magruder on Oct. 16 and Wootton on Oct. 21.
