The building that housed Mayflower Chinese restaurant for more than 20 years has sold for $1.125 million, and the new owner has not disclosed plans for the small Norfolk Avenue storefront.
The Quang-Lienhai Living Trust sold the roughly 1,050-square-foot property at 7925 Norfolk Ave. to an entity called 7925 Norfolk LLC, according to MoCo Show, citing Maryland Newsletters. The sale closed June 1. Assessment records identify the LLC's resident agent as Lan Yin of Bethesda.
The price works out to about $1,071 per square foot for the 1962-era building, which sits on a 0.03-acre lot. Long & Foster Real Estate handled both sides of the deal, with Henry S. Purcell as listing agent and Kimberly A. Cestari representing the buyer, MLS records show.
The property is zoned CR-3.0, a Montgomery County mixed-use designation that allows buildings up to 90 feet and a floor-area ratio of 8.0. That means the site could, under its current zoning, support a structure far larger than the single-story building there now.
No permit applications or zoning hearings tied to 7925 Norfolk Ave. have appeared in public records.
Mayflower closed in May after its lease expired and a renewal agreement could not be reached with the landlord, blogger Robert Dyer first reported in April. The restaurant was known for affordable prices and had built a devoted neighborhood following over its two-plus decades in the Woodmont Triangle.
At the time of the closure, the restaurant's owner was said to be looking for a new Bethesda location, according to MoCo Show's May report. As of Aug. 10, no new site has been announced.
The sale adds to a stretch of change along Norfolk Avenue. In February, Rock Creek Property Group proposed a retail project at nearby Auburn and Norfolk avenues, according to Bethesda Magazine.
