Someone broke into a home on the 6000 block of Benalder Drive in Bethesda on Monday, Aug. 10, forcing entry and stealing property during a three-hour window that morning.

The break-in occurred between 6:35 a.m. and 9:48 a.m., according to the Montgomery County Police Department's daily crime summary reported by MoCoShow. No arrest has been made.

The burglary is the latest property crime reported in the 2nd District this month. Over the Aug. 7–9 weekend, police logged two attempted residential burglaries on the 5800 block of Inman Park Circle and the 8500 block of Pelham Road, a vehicle theft near Citadel Avenue and McGrath Boulevard, and an aggravated assault on the 7800 block of Fox Gate Court, as we reported Aug. 11. One arrest was made in connection with the Pelham Road attempt.

The pattern tracks with a broader countywide surge in property crime. MCPD spokesperson Capt. Cody Fields told Bethesda Magazine on Aug. 3 that auto thefts are up 20% this year compared to 2025, with more than 90 juveniles and 40 adults arrested in connection with vehicle thefts. "We're finding that stolen cars are a possible nexus to this," Fields said at the time, noting that stolen vehicles have been used to commit burglaries and robberies across the county.

Police have not released a suspect description or additional details about the Benalder Drive case.

Elsewhere in the county on Aug. 10, seven catalytic converters were stolen from vehicles in the 4th District's Wheaton and Aspen Hill area, three bank ATMs were damaged in the 1st District along Rockville Pike, and a resident on the 10800 block of Lockwood Drive in the 3rd District found an intruder inside their home who fled with property.
