A bullet fired inside an apartment in the 4400 block of East West Highway traveled into a neighboring unit early Monday, Aug. 24, according to Montgomery County Police.

No one was injured.

Officers from the 2nd District responded at approximately 6:59 a.m. to a report of what the department called a non-contact shooting, meaning no person was struck by the round. The Montgomery County Police Department posted on X that the scene was secure and there was no threat to the community.

Police classified the incident as a weapons offense in their daily crime summary for Aug. 24, as The MoCo Show reported Tuesday. The summary covers the 2nd District, which includes Bethesda, Chevy Chase and portions of Potomac.

The department has not released suspect information or said whether the discharge was accidental or intentional. No arrest has been announced. The incident remains under investigation, though police have not provided a timeline for further updates.

The 4400 block of East West Highway sits in a residential stretch of downtown Bethesda, two blocks from the Bethesda Metro station on the Red Line. The block contains multi-unit apartment buildings along one of the area's busiest corridors, where a stray round passing through walls poses a clear risk to neighbors in adjacent units.

Police have not identified which apartment the round originated from or confirmed how many residents were present in either unit at the time of the discharge.
