Downtown Bethesda's free Outdoor Concert Series returns Friday, Aug. 28, with Dogo du Togo & The Alagaa Beat Band opening the fall run.

The concerts take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the corner of Norfolk and St. Elmo avenues in the Woodmont Triangle. The series continues weekly through Friday, Sept. 18, according to the Bethesda Urban Partnership, which organizes the events.

The series took a break in late July and early August before the Aug. 28 return.

Massama Dogo, the bandleader known as Dogo du Togo, was born in Lomé, Togo, and moved to Washington, D.C., in 2000, where he founded the Afro-pop band Elikeh before eventually launching his solo career and assembling the Alagaa Beat Band for his 2024 album "Avoudé." The collective blends psychedelic rock, afrobeat and Togolese ritual rhythms into a sound Dogo calls the "Alagaa Beat."

Songlines magazine described the band's music as "a vibrant, psychedelic journey filled with brass, retro synths and hard-hitting Afro-rock beats," according to the group's booking agency profile.

Alcoholic beverages may be purchased from participating restaurants at the venue but cannot be brought from home.

Three more acts follow on subsequent Fridays: Soul Crackers, Eric Scott and GXB. Specific dates for each have not been posted. The full lineup is available at bethesda.org/summer-concert-series.
