Walt Whitman's girls' field hockey team blasted Magruder 9-0 in a Friday, Sept. 11, home game, with five different players scoring as the Vikings improved to 1-1.

Sophomore Antonia Perrado paced the attack with three goals, The Black and White reported. Sophomores Reese Harper and Noelle Cornoni each added two, while sophomore Roshni Babra and junior Ella Kanczekur scored one apiece.

The Vikings were up 6-0 at halftime.

Whitman controlled possession from the opening whistle, keeping the ball in Magruder's half for the first five minutes. Harper got the scoring started off a penalty corner, and the Vikes piled on three more before the first quarter ended. Perrado opened the second quarter with two breakaway goals, and Babra's strike from 10 yards out closed the half.

The second half brought more of the same. Perrado completed her hat trick on a tap-in, Kanczekur scored on a lifted shot, and Cornoni capped the rout with a ricochet.

The lopsided win was a sharp turnaround from the season opener. Whitman fell to Holton Arms 2-1 on Sept. 9, a game in which Perrado scored the Vikings' only goal off a penalty corner assist from Kanczekur, per The Black and White.

Against Magruder, the depth of the scoring stood out. Five sophomores and one junior accounted for all nine goals, a sign of young talent across the roster.

Whitman is scheduled to play at Einstein on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m.
