The Hunter's Hound is gone, and its furniture is up for grabs. Two new restaurants are set to take over the Chevy Chase space by the end of the year.
The Irish-themed restaurant at 5471 Wisconsin Ave. closed permanently on Sept. 3 after nearly five years in business. A representative told MoCo Show the location was not generating enough business to continue operating. Owner Jason O'Brien had opened The Hunter's Hound in December 2021 after establishing Irish restaurants in New York City and Jersey City, New Jersey.
Now the restaurant's tables, chairs, kitchen equipment, televisions and projectors are up for bid. An online auction hosted by Rasmus closes Thursday, Oct. 22, at 2:07 p.m., as first reported by MoCo Show. Buyers can pick up items in Chevy Chase on Monday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 7 p.m.
Metropolitan Hospitality Group (MHG), a Falls Church, Virginia-based restaurant company, plans to open two concepts at The Collection by the end of 2026, according to a September announcement from CCLC, the real estate firm that owns the development.
Open Road, an American restaurant with a nautical theme, will take over The Hunter's Hound's former space. Cove, a brand-new all-day café and wine bar, will move into the spot left by Junction Bistro, Bar & Bakery, which also closed in late August, Bethesda Magazine reported. Cove is an entirely new concept for MHG.
The Chevy Chase locations mark MHG's first expansion into Maryland. The group, founded in 2005, operates more than a dozen restaurants across Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., including CIRCA, Él Bebe, Trio Grill and Heirloom. The Collection is also home to Clyde's, Sushiko and Potomac Pizza.
MHG President Matthew Carlin said in a Sept. 9 press release that Friendship Heights "immediately stood out" as the right fit for the company's Maryland debut.
Open Road's menu at its existing locations features burgers, steak frites, fish tacos, wings, pizza and grain bowls, according to Bethesda Magazine. The Collection has seen significant restaurant turnover in recent years. Joy by Seven Reasons, a Latin fusion restaurant, closed in December 2025 after more than three years. The Heights food hall ceased operations in August 2025 after less than two years.
Exact opening dates and Chevy Chase-specific menus for Open Road and Cove have not been announced.
