CAVA has shut down its Dining Terrace food court location at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda for a stall renovation.
The fast-casual Mediterranean chain is calling the project a Mediterranean makeover, according to Robert Dyer's Bethesda blog, which first reported the closure on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Signage at the stall lists a winter 2026 reopening target. Dyer interpreted that as sometime between Dec. 21 and Dec. 31, though the phrase could also mean early 2027.
No details about the scope of the renovation or design changes have been released. CAVA has not issued a press release or public statement beyond the signage at the stall.
The closure is the latest in a string of tenant renovations at the Bethesda mall this year. Lilly Pulitzer shuttered its storefront for remodeling in September, with branded window screens directing customers to a text line for reopening updates. T-Mobile and Häagen-Dazs both closed for renovations in July. None of the three has announced a reopening date.
New tenants are filling other spaces. Ay! Mama Taqueria opened at the mall in August. Shotted, a Northern Virginia-based Saudi-inspired coffee shop, announced plans for a Montgomery Mall location, with an opening expected in fall 2026.
CAVA was founded in Rockville in 2006 by Ted Xenohristos, Ike Grigoropoulos and Dimitri Moshovitis. Brett Schulman joined as CEO in 2009. The company opened its first fast-casual restaurant in Bethesda in January 2011 and operated 474 locations across the country as of May 2026. As we reported Sept. 30, the company has since reached 500 locations. It trades on the NYSE under the ticker CAVA.
The renovation wave comes as Westfield Montgomery also works to attract new tenants and tighten mall operations. The mall introduced a Parental Guidance Policy on Sept. 28, requiring visitors under 18 to be accompanied by someone 21 or older after 3 p.m. daily.
CAVA's Dining Terrace stall has no confirmed reopening date beyond the winter 2026 window.
