Shake Shack's new downtown Bethesda restaurant will open Friday, Oct. 2, two days later than planned.

The chain had set a Wednesday, Sept. 30 opening for the location at 7535 Old Georgetown Road. The delay was first reported by Patrick Herron of The MoCo Show. A Shake Shack spokesperson confirmed the change in an email to Bethesda Magazine on Tuesday, Sept. 29. The spokesperson did not give a reason for the postponement.

Doors open at 10 a.m. The first wave of guests will receive custom Shake Shack tote bags. The chain will also donate $1 for every sandwich sold at the Bethesda location on Oct. 2 to KID Museum, the Bethesda-based nonprofit at 3 Bethesda Metro Center that runs hands-on STEM programs for children and teens.

The 3,500-square-foot restaurant occupies the former SunTrust bank space on the ground floor of Element 28, a 15-story, 101-unit apartment building constructed in 2017 and located steps from the Bethesda Metro station. The SunTrust branch closed in 2021. Sweeteria, PopUp Bagels and Chipotle are the restaurant's immediate neighbors.

Regular hours will run 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

The menu features Shake Shack staples like the ShackBurger, crinkle-cut fries and hand-spun shakes. Limited-time offerings include a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup shake, a Biscoff Cookie Butter Tiramisu shake and a Tropical Mango with Passionfruit Popping Boba shake. Vegetarian options include the Veggie Shack and the 'Shroom Burger, and lettuce-wrapped burgers and gluten-free buns are available.

The downtown Bethesda location will be Shake Shack's second in the Bethesda area and fourth in Montgomery County, joining spots in Kentlands, Westfield Montgomery and Cabin John Village. It is the chain's 11th in Maryland.

The opening comes more than a year after Shake Shack announced plans for the site, according to Bethesda Magazine.
