Eight artists compete for $14,000 in prizes at Gallery B in downtown Bethesda starting Thursday, Sept. 3, in the 24th annual Trawick Prize.

The exhibition, free and open to the public, runs through Sunday, Sept. 27, at 7700 Wisconsin Ave., Suite E. The show is part of the Trawick Prize: Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards, a juried competition that draws artists working in all media from across the region.

The finalists are Cindy Cheng, Diana Derby, Ayana Gordon, Leslie Holt, Madyha Leghari, Anne Rogers, Tony Shore and Ciarra K. Walters. They were chosen from more than 350 submissions by artists in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., according to a Frederick News-Post listing.

Admission is free.

The Bethesda Urban Partnership, which manages downtown Bethesda's Arts & Entertainment District, organizes the annual competition. The group opened the call for submissions in March, advertising $14,000 in total prize money for selected artists.

Carol Trawick established the award in 2003. The competition has run annually since, and this year marks its 24th edition, according to the Bethesda Urban Partnership's website.

A public opening reception is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 4, from 6–8 p.m. during the Bethesda Art Walk.

Gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
