A 20,000-square-foot retail building on Wisconsin Avenue that once housed Sur La Table has sold for $6.5 million to an affiliate of Jamie Weinstein, a political commentator and podcast host.

The sale of 5211 Wisconsin Ave. NW, first reported by the Washington Business Journal on Sunday, puts one of Friendship Heights corridor's larger storefronts in the hands of a media figure with no publicly announced plans for the space.

Weinstein, a former senior editor at The Daily Caller who hosts The Jamie Weinstein Show podcast, made the purchase through an affiliate entity. Neither Weinstein nor the affiliate has commented on what comes next for the building, according to the Washington Business Journal's Daniel J. Sernovitz.

The property sits roughly 400 feet from the Friendship Heights Metro station, according to an HR Retail commercial listing modified Friday, June 26, that described the space as "available immediately."

A discount from the last sale

The $6.5 million price appears to be well below what the building last traded for. The neighborhood account Tenleytown & Around noted on X that the price is "almost 40% lower than the property's last sale price (in 2004)," though the exact prior sale amount could not be independently confirmed from public records.

Building history

Sur La Table, the cookware retailer, previously anchored the space. More recently, the building hosted Carpe Librum, a pop-up used bookstore operated by D.C. education nonprofit Turning the Page, which collects and sells donated books to fund programs supporting public school families.

The Friendship Heights retail strip has seen turnover in recent years. The Heights, a food hall at 5400 Wisconsin Ave., closed in August 2025 after less than two years in business.
