The Whitman Vikings beat the Walter Johnson Wildcats 27-21 on Friday, Oct. 23, in a Week 8 football matchup between the two Bethesda-area rivals.

The six-point win, confirmed by The MoCo Show's Week 8 scoreboard, gives Whitman a victory heading into the final stretch before the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) football tournament. No scoring breakdown or individual statistics from the game were available at publication.

A night earlier, the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Barons crushed Springbrook 61-0 on Thursday, Oct. 22. The shutout kept B-CC on track as the postseason approaches.

Elsewhere in Montgomery County on Friday, several games were blowouts. Clarksburg shut out Watkins Mill 66-0, Seneca Valley routed Blair 60-21, Wheaton blanked Kennedy 43-0 and Churchill topped Wootton 41-0. Sherwood edged Damascus 34-29 in the closest Friday contest besides the Whitman-WJ game, while Gaithersburg beat Magruder 20-12 and Centennial slipped past Northwood 19-16.

All three Bethesda-area programs now turn their attention to the MPSSAA postseason calendar. The last play date that counts toward tournament seeding is Oct. 31. The MPSSAA will announce seeds on Nov. 2.

First-round tournament games are scheduled for Nov. 5-7, with the second round set for Nov. 12-14. State quarterfinals follow Nov. 20-21, semifinals Nov. 27-28 and state championship games Dec. 3-5, according to the MPSSAA football calendar.

Whitman, Walter Johnson and B-CC fans looking for postseason positioning will want to watch the Oct. 31 seeding cutoff closely. The MPSSAA seed announcement comes two days later on Nov. 2.
