Fall sports registration for student-athletes at Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Walt Whitman and Walter Johnson high schools opens at noon on Monday.
Montgomery County Public Schools announced the registration window on Wednesday, giving families five days to get ready. The district stressed that students already enrolled in summer conditioning must still register separately for their fall sport to be eligible for tryouts. Registration is through ParentVue, and tryouts will begin on Wednesday, August 12.
What's new this fall
MCPS is debuting junior varsity girls' flag football at high schools this August, funded by a grant from the Washington Commanders. The district is also piloting STUNT, a competitive cheerleading-derived sport focused on skills execution, at 13 high schools. Gymnastics and co-ed volleyball were discontinued after spring 2026.
Walter Johnson Athletic Director Larry Hurd Jr. told the WJ Pitch in April that the gymnastics cut stung despite strong participation at his school. "I'm heartbroken about gymnastics," Hurd said. "I am very optimistic about STUNT in the future."
How to register
Registration is handled entirely through ParentVue at mcpsathleticzone.com. Students must be registered before they can try out. Opening games fall in early September, roughly three weeks after the first practice.
