Bethesda Row's Dolcezza shop is giving away free scoops of a limited-edition Argentine-inspired gelato on July 21 in celebration the company's 22nd birthday.
The giveaway runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at 7111 Bethesda Lane. No purchase is necessary. Scoops are available while supplies last.
The flavor is Chocotorta, a nod to Argentina's popular no-bake dessert. It features chocolate cookies soaked in coffee, folded into dulce de leche gelato with whipped dulce de leche and cream cheese.
Co-founders Robb Duncan and Violeta Edelman opened their first Dolcezza in Georgetown in July 2004. The Bethesda location followed in 2008. The shop closed during the pandemic in 2020 but has since reopened.
Duncan and Edelman got the idea for Dolcezza during a trip to Buenos Aires in 2000, where they fell for the city's gelato culture. They opened in Georgetown without ever having made a batch.
"I always say obsession is greatly rewarded in the kitchen, and I really just lost myself in this whole world," Duncan said in a Bon Appétit profile.
The company now operates seven locations across the D.C. region. All locations except the Hirshhorn Museum shop are participating in the July 21 giveaway.
Dolcezza uses grass-fed Pennsylvania milk and cream and sources seasonal fruit, herbs and nuts from local suppliers.
The Bethesda Row shop's summer menu also includes Blueberry Lavender Gelato, Mint Chip Gelato made with Virginia-grown mint and a limited-time Sour Cherry Sorbet.
