Eight thefts from vehicles in a single week across Bethesda's 2nd District. An armed robbery at a convenience store. A shots-fired call. An aggravated assault that ended with a Bethesda man in handcuffs.
That's the picture from the Montgomery County Department of Police's most recent weekly crime summary, covering July 5–11 and released Friday. The department also posted its weekend calls-for-service overview for July 17–19 on Monday, though detailed Bethesda-specific data from that weekend is not yet available in text form.
Armed robbery and shots fired on July 5
A commercial armed robbery occurred at Food Stop Mini Mart in the 4800 block of Boiling Brook Parkway at approximately 10:01 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, according to the 2nd District crime summary. The suspect displayed a weapon and stole merchandise. Police arrested the suspect.
That same night, officers responded to a shots-fired call in the 1900 block of East West Highway at 10:31 p.m. No suspect information was available.
Assault arrest at Battery Lane and Wisconsin Avenue
On Friday, July 11, an aggravated assault occurred at the intersection of Battery Lane and Wisconsin Avenue at approximately 6:13 p.m. The suspect displayed a weapon. Akhenaton Kalesi Andrews, 31, of Bethesda was arrested in connection with the incident.
Vehicle break-ins remain high-volume
The summary documented eight thefts from vehicles across the 2nd District during the week, including incidents on Connecticut Avenue, Montgomery Avenue, Pooks Hill Road, and the 7400 block of Democracy Boulevard. Force was used in at least four of those break-ins, with a car part stolen in one case.
The department noted that thefts from unlocked cars "continue to be a high-volume crime in Montgomery County" and urged residents to remove valuables, take keys, and lock doors.
Other incidents
A commercial burglary at Tobacco King & Vape in the 10600 block of Connecticut Avenue on Tuesday, July 7, involved forced entry; suspects took money and merchandise. A pickpocketing theft was reported in the 7200 block of Woodmont Avenue at 9:48 p.m. on Thursday, July 9. An auto theft in the 10300 block of Grosvenor Place on Friday, July 10, ended with the vehicle recovered the same day.
