Montgomery County Police on Wednesday, Aug. 5, identified Moussa Diarra, 35, of Springdale in Prince George's County as the driver killed in a three-vehicle rollover crash at Four Corners on Thursday night.

The department's Collision Reconstruction Unit released Diarra's name six days after the crash at University Boulevard West and Colesville Road, near Montgomery Blair High School.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews were dispatched to the intersection around 10 p.m. July 30 for a report of a collision with entrapment. First responders found two people trapped inside a vehicle and extricated both within minutes, according to Bethesda Magazine, which first reported the identification.

What police say happened

A preliminary investigation found Diarra was driving a white 2013 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on University Boulevard East when he struck a guardrail, the curb, two trees and a utility pole on the left side of the roadway. The pickup flipped and rear-ended two vehicles stopped at a red light: a white Acura RDX and a white Ford Escape.

A passenger in the Silverado was taken to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Initial reports on the night of the crash had described the passenger's condition as life-threatening, but the department's official update Wednesday characterized the injuries as non-life-threatening. The drivers of the Acura and Ford were not injured.

Investigation ongoing

The cause of the crash remains unknown. Police said the Collision Reconstruction Unit's investigation may take weeks or months to complete.

The intersection was shut down after the crash and reopened by 6 a.m. Friday, July 31, according to MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos.
