More than 100 people showed up in person and online Tuesday, Aug. 18, for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service's first community listening session, and the department says it will fold that feedback into revised plans before a second public forum on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
MCFRS chief spokesperson Pete Piringer announced the turnout on X, saying participants spent the session asking questions and sharing ideas with staff and stakeholders. Fire Chief Corey Smedley retweeted the announcement.
The sessions invite volunteer partners, labor representatives and community members to voice priorities and concerns about service delivery and other issues as MCFRS plans ahead, Piringer said.
No agenda was released.
What specific plans are under revision has not been disclosed, and MCFRS has not published the location or format of the Sept. 9 forum. The listening sessions mark a new public engagement effort for the county's fire and rescue department, which operates as a combination career-and-volunteer organization.
Residents can follow @mcfrsPIO on X for updates on the Sept. 9 forum or contact the MCFRS public information office with questions about department services.
