A Bethesda student who has already represented the United States on the international stage now holds Maryland's highest individual honor in high school girls soccer.

Lauren Hemann, a junior midfielder and defender at Holton-Arms School, was named the 2025-26 Gatorade Maryland Girls Soccer Player of the Year, Gatorade announced June 18. The award, now in its 41st year, recognizes one winner per state in each of 12 sports.

Hemann scored seven goals and recorded nine assists during the 2025-26 season, leading the Panthers to a 10-4 record and the Independent School League tournament semifinals. She is a three-time All-ISL First Team selection and ranked the nation's No. 73 recruit in the Class of 2027 by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Her resume extends well beyond the ISL. Hemann played in the Four Nations Cup with the U.S. Soccer Under-17 Women's National Team in the summer of 2025 and participated in a training camp with the U.S. Soccer U18 National Team in April.

"Lauren is incredible," said Ross McEwen, head coach at rival ISL program The Potomac School, in the Gatorade announcement. "She's just a solid all-around player who seemed to be all over the field."

Off the pitch, Hemann carries a weighted 4.05 GPA and serves as president of her class at Holton-Arms. The daughter of a U.S. Army veteran, she has volunteered with Wreaths Across America at Arlington National Cemetery and with The Green Road at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She also coaches youth soccer.

As a Gatorade Player of the Year, Hemann receives a grant to donate to a social impact organization of her choosing.

She has made a verbal commitment to play at Stanford University beginning in fall 2027. Before that, she has one more season with the Panthers — her senior year at Holton-Arms begins in fall 2026.
