Walt Whitman's volleyball team opened its 2026 season with a 3-0 sweep of Northwood on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The Vikings took the first two sets by identical 25-18 scores, holding the Gladiators under 20 points in each. Whitman won the third set 25-5, outscoring Northwood 75-41 across the match.

The win moves Whitman to 1-0. Northwood, a Montgomery County Public Schools program based in Rockville, falls to 0-1. The Black and White, Whitman's student newspaper, first reported the result.

Whitman hosts Clarksburg on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m. for its second match in two days.
