Andy's Pizza's pepperoni pie made The Washington Post's "40 Essential Dishes of D.C." list, published Aug. 28.

The recognition is the third major honor this summer for the chain founded by Montgomery County native Andy Brown. Andy's operates a Downtown Bethesda location alongside 13 other shops across the D.C. region.

The Post's list was the paper's first such ranking since 2017. Post staffers fanned out across Washington, Maryland and Northern Virginia to taste and retaste dishes before making their selections.

The paper compared Andy's New York-style slices to a more refined take on Jumbo Slice, praising the chain for consistency and convenience. It singled out the pepperoni, noting the topping curls and crisps at the edges, collecting a pool of spicy oil. The chain ferments its dough for 72 hours before baking, producing a thin crust with a slight char.

Brown founded Andy's in Tysons Corner in 2018. The brand has since grown to 14 locations, three of them in Montgomery County: Downtown Bethesda, Gaithersburg and Westfield Montgomery Mall.

The Post nod caps a strong summer. In June, Andy's won Fast Casual Restaurant of the Year at the 2026 RAMMY Awards, the annual ceremony hosted by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington at Arena Stage in D.C. The chain beat four competitors, including Call Your Mother, according to Bethesda Magazine.

"I have worked every piece of D.C. I have seen you all after 9:30 Club at 3 in the morning while you yell at me," Brown said during his RAMMY acceptance speech in June. "We are so happy to be here."

Andy's also won Washington City Paper's Best Pizza award, as MoCo Show reported Sept. 7.

Andy's has not announced any new Montgomery County locations.
